ETCH Jobs of the Week (JOTW) is a collaboration between ETCH, your home for EdTech news and information; and my recruiting practice, Tenzing, which helps orgs positively impacting education efficiently attract, source, vet and hire mission-aligned talent.
Hi friends,
I’ve spent the past couple of weeks preparing for a mini-sabbatical this summer. It’s funny, I had read about sabbaticals before and thought them intellectually interesting. But the process of designing one is an intensely personal experience. I thought I’d share some of that experience with you all in the event you might try to take a sabbatical of your own at some point in the future.
This Spring I decided that my sabbatical would run from mid-June to mid-August. The impetus was, “If not now, when?”
Seriously! I’ve been running this business for close to a decade and I’ve had three kids during that period (without a proper paternity leave). I knew that more excuses would emerge if I waited any longer and that a June - August sabbatical would coincide with the long break that my wife, a teacher, gets over the summer. (Break isn’t really the right word for this, it’s more like a change in responsibilities.)
Of course, a bunch of new projects threatened to knock me off this path - you’ll note that it “mid-June” was, in fact, several weeks ago. But, with some careful planning and the efforts of amazing teammates who have stepped up, I’m going to make this work. You all can hold me accountable for this!
In prep for my time off, I’ve queued up a couple of feature interviews for this newsletter that we’ll be releasing over the next two months - this will be more of a Jobs of the Month through the summer. Arie Mangrum IV, who recently joined our team, will be curating the jobs for those two newsletter posts.
I encourage you to connect with Arie; he’s been in the business of talent acquisition for over 13 years and is a great person to know - well-networked and good people.
I look forward to reconnecting with you all in September. Until then, I’ll be doing my best to refresh, relax, recharge, reimagine, and re-[fill in the blank]!
Cheers,
Everett
